There's a particular pleasure in vintage linen that's been properly made and properly kept. This set has both qualities. Five rectangular placemats in pale cream linen, each carrying a hand-embroidered spray of strawberries, blossoms, and leaves running vertically along the left edge — vivid reds, warm yellows, deep greens against the quiet ground of the fabric.

The embroidery is the kind that takes time: the strawberries are rendered with enough detail to show their seeds, the flowers have distinct petals, the leaves read as individual rather than generic. Whoever made these was paying attention. They're in excellent vintage condition — clean, no fading, no pulls — which is to say they've been looked after and are ready to be used again.

A set of five sets a rectangular table for four with one to spare, or covers a round table for five. They're the right size for a relaxed lunch, a Sunday breakfast, or a proper dinner where you want the table to look cared-for without being formal.
