A table is the centre of a home. It's where meals happen, where people gather, where ordinary evenings become something worth remembering. The cloth you put on it matters more than most people give it credit for.

This tablecloth is made from natural linen — durable, breathable, and possessed of that particular softness that only improves with washing. At its centre, a hand-embroidered floral composition spreads across 65 × 100 cm of the surface: two large sunflower-like blooms in coral and orange, surrounded by leaves in forest green, smaller buds, and trailing botanical details in amber and red. The embroidery is done in running and outline stitch — delicate rather than dense, which means the linen ground reads through and the overall effect is airy and artisan rather than heavy or fussy.

It works as well outdoors as in. Laid over a garden table in summer with simple ceramic plates and glassware, it looks like somewhere you'd want to stay all afternoon. Indoors in winter, it brings warmth to a dining room that would otherwise be all hard surfaces.

Care

• Machine or hand wash on a gentle 30°C programme
• Do not bleach
• Do not tumble dry — air dry flat or on a line
• Iron on low heat while slightly damp for best results
• Linen will soften further with each wash
