The fabric dates from the 1960s — hand-embroidered in Bukhara, one of the historic centres of Uzbek textile craft, at a time when Suzani work was made for domestic use rather than export. It was not made to be sold. It was made to be lived with. That distinction shows in the embroidery: two horizontal bands of bold, interlocking scroll forms in wheat, sand, and warm taupe, each centred on a softly blooming floral medallion in the palest blush. The palette is tonal rather than contrasting — the kind of quiet sophistication that takes decades to arrive at.

The lumbar format — wider than it is tall — makes it more versatile than a square cushion. It sits across the back of a sofa, props against a headboard, or anchors the centre of a wider arrangement. The muted, sandy tones mean it works in rooms where a more colourful Suzani might dominate.

Made into a cushion cover in Turkey using the original vintage fabric. Hidden zip on reverse. 100% cotton. The front is the vintage Suzani panel; the back is plain cotton in a complementary tone.
