Vintage Hand-Painted Porcelain Jardinière | Elephant Procession & Gold Rim | 28cm
Description
LEAD TIME TWO WEEKS
There is a category of decorative object that transcends its original function entirely — a pot so considered in its making that it belongs on a surface whether or not it ever holds a plant. This is one of those objects.
The form is a classic jardinière: wide-bellied, low-footed, open at the top, with a generous presence that commands a surface without dominating it. The porcelain is ivory — warm rather than cold white — and across its widest circumference, a continuous hand-painted procession of ceremonial elephants moves in both directions. Each elephant is caparisoned in richly detailed regalia: a latticed howdah with painted floral insets, braided rope, ankle jewellery, an elaborately dressed head. A calf walks beneath one of the larger animals. The detail at this scale is remarkable — the kind of painting that requires a fine brush, a steady hand, and genuine knowledge of what is being depicted.
A geometric diamond band in brown and gold circles the rim. Below the elephant frieze, a register of pointed arch forms in blush and grey-blue carries small painted botanical sprigs. The rim itself is finished in gold lustre. The overall effect is rich without being fussy — a palette of ivory, warm brown, blush pink, dusty blue, and gold that sits comfortably in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
In excellent vintage condition — no chips, no cracks, no repairs. Use it as a planter with a liner, as a wine or champagne cooler, as a vessel for dried botanicals, or simply as the sculptural object it already is.
Please note: One-of-a-kind vintage piece. Once sold, it cannot be restocked.

Styling notes
- Place on a low console, a fireplace hearth, or a wide windowsill — it needs horizontal space around it to be seen properly
- Fill with a trailing plant in a plain terracotta liner, or with dried pampas, eucalyptus, or sculptural branches
- The ivory, blush, and gold palette connects naturally to the BoKa gold pomegranate Suzani cushion and the vintage 1960s Bukhara lumbar — together they build a warm, globally-collected corner of a room
- Works in maximalist, eclectic, Chinoiserie, and global-artisan interiors equally
- Strong enough to sit alone on a plain surface with nothing competing — it does not need company to hold a space
Care
- Wipe with a soft damp cloth — mild soap if needed
- Do not submerge or machine wash
- If using as a planter, always use a waterproof liner — do not allow water to sit in direct contact with the porcelain base
- Handle with care — vintage porcelain is fragile despite its robust appearance
- Keep away from direct sustained sunlight to preserve the gold lustre rim
