Kosta Boda 'Bon Bon' Vase | Kjell Engman | 1980s Hand-Blown Art Glass | Teal, Orange & Yellow | 34cm
Description
LEAD TIME UP TO TWO WEEKS
Kjell Engman joined Kosta Boda in 1978 and spent the following decades making some of the most joyful, technically accomplished art glass to come out of Sweden. The Bon Bon series is characteristic of his work at its most exuberant — forms that are simultaneously sculptural and playful, colours that shouldn't work together and absolutely do.
This piece is a case in point. The body is a full, flattened sphere in misted teal — cloud-like internal texture, deep in the centre, lighter toward the edges, the kind of colour that holds atmosphere rather than just occupying space. From the sphere, a ribbed neck rises in warm terracotta orange, drawn into a flared lip with fine vertical ribs that catch light along their edges. A handle in solid lemon yellow arcs from neck to shoulder — a colour choice so confident it could only have been made by someone who knew exactly what they were doing. A slender pedestal foot in clear glass lifts the whole form off the surface, giving it the slightly precarious elegance of something that knows it's being looked at.
Retains its original Kosta Boda label. Excellent vintage condition throughout. Not signed, but fully authenticated by the label and the unmistakable character of the Bon Bon series.
This is a collector's piece — sought after, increasingly scarce, and not the kind of thing that comes up twice. Once sold, it's gone.

Styling notes
- At 34cm tall this commands a shelf, mantelpiece, or console entirely on its own — it does not need companions to hold a space
- The teal, orange, and yellow palette is the most chromatic piece in the Home Edit range — place it where it can be seen from across the room
- The teal connects to the BoKa multicolour Suzani medallion cushion; the orange echoes the terracotta Moroccan Sabra — placed in the same room, the colour relationships are not accidental
- Works in mid-century modern, maximalist, Scandinavian, and global-eclectic interiors equally
- A significant collector's gift — Kjell Engman pieces are actively sought by Scandinavian glass collectors and the Bon Bon series is among his most recognisable work
Care
- Wipe with a soft dry or very slightly damp cloth
- Do not submerge — the pedestal foot join is a point of vulnerability in vintage blown glass
- Keep away from direct sustained sunlight — prolonged UV exposure can affect vintage art glass colour over decades
- Handle with care and always support the base — the pedestal form is elegant but requires careful handling
- Do not use as a functional vase with water — display only recommended for a piece of this age and value
